Hunting Sword
- Dated: circa 1750
- Culture: South German
- Measurements: overall length 78 cm
The sword has a slightly curved single-edged and double grooved blade. At the base of the blade lies an etched flower and vine decorations. The perforated brass hilt features heavy gilding, while the handle itself is dated second half of 17th century and made from whale tooth ivory.
The hilt features finely carved and sculpted figures of hounds fighting with bears and a goat. The carving of the handle is probably attributable to the sculptor family Maucher, whose members in the second half of the 17th century worked at various German courts and are especially known for their elaborately decorated hunting weapons.
